Earthworm, A Success Story

I don't know how many lives cats really have, but I do know that my cat, Earthworm, had run out - twice. It is only because of the dedication of the people at the Cat Care Centre - Dr. Sue, Angela and Allison, that I have a fat, happy and very loving cat.

I first went to the Cat Care Centre when Earthworm was on his last legs. His name comes from his color and the rather large bulge in his middle. However, he had been thinning for months. I took him to another vet, who didn't seem to think it mattered and didn't do any tests to find out differently. When I finally went to the Cat Care Centre, he was terribly thin. They did tests and found out it was thyroid. Lucky for EW that Dr. Sue is a master at thyroid surgery. He was back on his feet and getting fat in no time! I was hooked - great people, great service and tons of caring. I was pleased to find a great vet.

At the beginning of September, Earthworm came in looking bad. We didn't know what was wrong, but something was not right. We took him in and it turns out he had gotten a bad bite or five from a feral cat. The bites were so dirty, the wounds became terribly infected. His whole back and bottom were rotting and his body wasn't able to cope with the infection. At one point, he had almost no white blood cells. His liver was starting to fail. It looked like the end. The people were great. They let me come in and see him and talk to him throughout the ordeal. I had to go out of town and they kept me abreast of the situation, which was looking worse by the day.

It was terribly frustrating to be out of town while my cat was dying. I wanted to be there. I don't think I could have been able to stand it if it wasn't that I had absolute faith that all the ladies at Cat Care were doing everything possible. I had long talks with Dr. Sue, making it clear that I didn't want to keep him alive and suffering just so I could come back and say goodbye. Dr. Sue was clear that she was willing to fight as long as Earthworm was willing to fight. It was her caring and her experience that made me hold off and let Earthworm fight it through.

These folks are wonderful. Every time I called Angela and Allison were cheerful and supportive. I knew they were working long hours and coming in late at night just to check on Earthworm. They were spending all their free time during the day sitting by his cage, patting him, encouraging him. I just can't believe how wonderful they all were (and are!).

And. well, don't you just love happy endings?

Earthworm came back. He is healing wonderfully. It's a long road, but he's back home. His "collar" is off. All is well.

I am so grateful that I found the Cat Care Centre. It seems that some vets are interested in money only. Some vets are in the business because they care. They are the diamonds - to be cherished . who bring a smile to your face when you think about them. Well, to Dr. Sue and Angela and Allison, thank you, I won't go so far as to say I look forward to having sick cats so I can come see you . but I DO smile and say a word of thanks every time I drive down South Walnut and see your place up on the hill.

OREO, A Success Story

Oreo is our beautiful cat. We received her from my sister who had saved her from a bad home. Oreo has always been very loving and she has many human qualities. Oreo constantly gives people hugs and kisses.

We had her for about a year and then she became very ill. My husband and I did not know what was wrong with her. The week before we had bought a brand new statue from [a local company] and she would rub up against it and licked it every once in awhile and we didn't think anything of it. Oreo then started to avoid human contact, which was very unlike her and we became very worried. Oreo started sleeping in the closet away from us when she usually slept with us. Oreo quit eating cat food and started eating her litter and did not drink much water the night before we took her to see Dr. Sue. Oreo became very sick that night, she was almost limp in my arms. I stayed up with her the whole night and kept her warm with a heating pad. I was very worried and anxious because this beautiful cat had become part of our family and in one night I almost lost her. Oreo did not show any signs of being really sick until the night before and then it was almost too late. My husband and I brought her in to see Dr. Sue and she was almost lifeless with a blood count of 5.

Dr. Sue searched for a cat donor endlessly for a blood transfusion and she finally found one. Oreo then underwent many blood transfusions and then after she gained enough strength she had some blood tests. Nothing showed up in her blood tests, accept for her low blood count. We took Oreo in every Wednesday to get a shot to increase her blood count for almost a month.

Then Oreo started acting like her old self again. She was that loving cat that gave the same old hugs and kisses. We tested our statue for lead per Dr. Sue’s recommendations. The statue seemed to have contained a faint lead outer paint. [The local company] did not have any warning on the statue claiming that it contained lead. My husband and I found out the hard way and almost lost a family member.

Thanks for saving one of our babies Dr. Sue!

Sincerely,
Amy & Michael Sears
