Cat Drool
by Dr. Sue A. Whitman, D.V.M.
Do you remember the line from the INCREDIBLE JOURNEY film, "Cats rule, dogs drool"?
Well, for the most part, this is a truism, but a small percentage of cats actually do selectively drool when they are happy. This makes for a messy owner-cat love affair, but most owners of these unique kitties are accepting of the individuality of their friend. If your cat has not proven to you many times in your relationship that he/she is one of these "slimers" and you notice drooling, it's time to get to the veterinarian! Drooling can be an indicator of an abscessed tooth, a viral infection causing oral ulcers, or even kidney disease!
